Windows
Adapter, firewall, DirectPlay, game detection — every Windows issue in one place.
Connection issues
Adapter blocked, high ping, players who can't see each other.
Per-game LAN guides
Step by step for hosting and joining, game by game.
Getting started
Download the app, install it, and create an account with an email address. On first launch Windows asks once for permission to install a virtual network adapter — that adapter is what makes other players look like machines on your own network. Without it nothing works, so allow it.
After that, open the Rooms tab, pick a game, and join. The app launches the game for you if it can find it; otherwise point it at the executable once and it remembers.
Connection issues
The app installs but the adapter never appears
This is almost always antivirus software. Kaspersky, ESET and Bitdefender all treat virtual adapters as suspicious. Add the LanOrbit folder to the exclusions list, then reinstall. On Windows, running the installer as administrator once fixes the rest.
Players in the room can't see each other in game
Check that everyone launched the game after joining the room. Most old titles scan the network only once, at startup. Also make sure everyone is on the same game version — LAN discovery breaks between patch levels.
Ping is much higher than the app shows
The number in the app is the path to the node. The number in game includes the host's own connection. If the host is on Wi-Fi or has an upload of 1 Mbps, no routing can fix that. Ask them to plug in a cable, or host the room yourself.
Rooms and hosts
Any player can open a room. The room owner sets the game, the number of slots and, optionally, a password. Ownership passes to the next player if the owner leaves, so a room doesn't die when someone's connection drops.
Rooms can hold up to eight players.
Requesting a game
Send us the exact title and version — the year, the expansion, whether it's the GOG or the disc release. We look at how it discovers other machines on a LAN, which ports and broadcast addresses it uses, and write a profile for it. Simple titles take a day or two; anything using an odd protocol takes longer.
Requests are public and other people can vote on them. The list is on the games page, at the bottom.
Account and billing
You can change your player name once every 30 days, your email at any time. Deleting the account removes your profile, friends and message history within 30 days; billing records are kept longer because tax law requires it. Details in the privacy policy.
Invoices are in Account → Billing. For company invoices on the Community plan, write to us with your registration details.
